President, Balogun Business Association, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos, Oscar Odogwu, has called on traders to remain hopeful and optimistic about the year ahead, despite the challenges of the current economic climate. He also took a moment to honour the founding fathers of the association, praising their vision and contributions to its growth.

Odogwu made the comment as part of his speech during the end of the year prayer session organised by the executive of the market.

Odogwu reflected on the past year, highlighting his relentless efforts to advance the interests of market members. He expressed pride in the significant progress achieved under his leadership and that of the executive team.

“We have successfully negotiated with Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Management to improve the major road infrastructure, which is dilapidated. Through our collaboration with other stakeholders, we hope to achieve a total turnaround of the roads in the complex, which has now been appropriated in the National Assembly’s 2025 budget. “

He highlighted some of his key achievements, including the restoration of electricity to BBA/ICC after six years of outage, fostering social cohesion and public confidence within the complex, and improving environmental sanitation through an effective waste management system.

Other milestones include clearing blocked drainage and water channels to reduce litter and flooding, installing solar-powered streetlights to enhance safety and security at night, removing hoodlums and shanties from parks, and beautifying recreational areas and parking lots. Additionally, he oversaw the rehabilitation of clinics for optimal functionality, complete with an ambulance, organized cluster elections to promote peace among traders, and united the community through entrepreneurship programs that supported members in business and social events. His administration also prioritized frugal governance to minimize wastage, curb corruption, and save funds for addressing governance issues, including the rehabilitation of the crèche.

While paying tributes to past leaders of the market, Chief Odogwu said:” I am grateful for the resilience and determination of team, coelected, BOT Chairman Chief Okey Ezibe, Chief Obi Alex Odunukwe and many other great members of the association.
