Bayern Munich have issued a statement after head coach Vincent Kompany collapsed while watching a training session involving the club’s reserve team on Friday.

The German champions confirmed the incident in a post on their official X account, explaining that Kompany was observing the second team’s training when he required medical attention.

The club said the Belgian coach had been taken to hospital for further medical assessment and would remain under medical care.

Bayern did not provide further details about what caused the collapse, saying Kompany would undergo a thorough examination.

The club’s coaching staff will temporarily take charge of training sessions and match-related responsibilities while the manager receives medical attention.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said the club’s immediate concern was Kompany’s health and recovery.

“The health of Vincent Kompany is our utmost priority. At FC Bayern, we will do everything to ensure he recovers quickly,” Eberl said.

He added that the coach was receiving the necessary care and support, while his assistants would handle his duties in the meantime.

“All of us at FC Bayern wish Vinnie a speedy recovery,” Eberl said.

The club has yet to disclose further details about Kompany’s condition or indicate when he might return to his coaching responsibilities.
