Bayelsa re-run election: APGA floors PDP

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Hon Amakoromo Waikumo of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA winner of the Yenagoa Constituency II re-run election.

INEC had conducted the re-run election following the Appeal Court judgement which ordered election in some polling units between Waikumo and Hon Ebiwou Koku- Obiyai of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Waikumo at the end of the collation of votes in the polling units polled 5,959 votes against Obiyai who polled 5263.

The returning officer, Prof Chris Onyema, Deputy Vice- Chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke while declaring the result at the Okolobiri collation centre said Waikumo scored the highest number of votes and declared him winner of the re0run election.

At the first election held in March 2023, before the court judgment, Waikumo had polled 4971 votes while Obiyai polled 4593.

During the Saturday’s election Obiyai polled 670 votes bringing her total votes to 5, 263, while Waikumo polled 988 which brought his total votes to 5959 votes.

There was an eruption of joy at Tombia, Okotiama, Obungha following the announcement of Waikumo as the winner of the election .

Several APGA supporters marched through the communities singing and dancing.
