Bayelsa polls: Stop falsehood against Douye, group urges LP candidate Eradiri

From Godwin Tsa, Abuja

The Network of Bayelsa Professionals (NBP) has accused the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Engr Udengs Eradiri, of spreading falsehood against Governor Douye Diri rather than engaging in an issue-based campaign.

The group in a statement on Wednesday appealed to the LP candidate to stop acting like a
jester who does not understand what it means to be the Chief Executive of a state like Bayelsa.

The statement which was signed by the group’s Spokesperson, Mr. Deinmobofa Tantua, said “Rather than convince the people on why they should consider him, Eradiri is busy peddling falsehood against the governor, Senator Douye Diri and his prosperity administration.

It noted that Eradiri felt that the easiest route to warm his way into the hearts of the people was to dish out one lie after the other against the governor.

The NBP stated that the recent comment by Eradiri that Governor Diri was distributing last-minute employment and appointments is the latest attempt of a man whose ambition has hit the rocks.

According to the group, the state government is not time-bound on when to engage qualified Bayelsans, especially when there are vacancies, stressing that it is only a mischievous man like Eradiri that will kick against such opportunities for his people.

The group maintained that because of his lack of respect and penchant for abusing respected Ijaw leaders, there is nowhere Eradiri had gone to seek support that he was not rejected.

On the November 11 governorship election, the NBP said even if Eradiri was the only one in the race, Bayelsans would still not have opted for him because of his antecedents and his woeful performance in the previous public offices he occupied.

The statement said: “If the Labour Party governorship candidate, Udengs Eradiri, wants Bayelsans to take him seriously then he must stop acting like a clown. For a man to kick against the employment of his own people, shows how shallow-minded he is.

“For instance, the recently launched buses and taxis by the government have led to the engagement of many Bayelsans as drivers. Is Eradiri implying that they shouldn’t have accepted that great opportunity?

“We are however not surprised of his constant media attack on the governor and his government. There is hardly any Ijaw leader who is dead or alive that Eradiri has not insulted. It is this arrogant and all-knowing attitude that has led to the exit of some key leaders of the Labour Party in the state including renowned environmentalist, Morris Alagoa.

“People should ask Eradiri why he did not reject his own “last minute appointment” as Commissioner for Youths and later Environment under former Governor Henry Seriake Dickson. That appointment came barely ten months into the 2019 election.

“It is clear that Eradiri does not understand what governance is all about despite boasting of a certificate from the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies. His worthless and lame argument on how to tackle some public policy issues confirms this assertion.

“We want to seize this opportunity to advise him to focus on his campaign and stop the unnecessary and incessant attacks on the governor. We are putting this out because it is the right thing to do and feel obligated to do so.”
