Some newly elected members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly have cried out to Governor Douye Diri, over the delay in completion of the new legislative quarters.
The lawmakers, who pleaded anonymity, alleged that non release of funds had stalled the project which had reached an advanced stage of completion. They, therefore, appealed to the governor to prevail on the state commissioner for finance to release funds for the completion of the new legislative quarters located in the heart of the state capital.
The new lawmakers said the leadership of the house, most of whom are old members, already reside in official quarters, hence their little or no concern about their plight.
“Our lives are in danger as we go to work from our private homes which lack security. Apart from the harassment we suffer at the hands of people who pressurise us for money, we find it difficult to concentrate on our primary assignment of lawmaking,” the new legislators lamented.
“We understand that Governor Doye Diri has since approved funds for the completion of the project. We are, therefore, appealing to the governor to act swiftly by prevailing on the commissioner for finance to release funds for the completion of the new legislative quarters, to enable us to settle down in a peaceful and secure environment, and concentrate on our jobs,” they added.
