A Senior Special Assistant to the Bayelsa State Governor and leader of Chairmen, Niger Delta Ex-agitators’ Leadership Forum, First Phase, Bayelsa State Chapter) ‘Gen’. Charles Kurobo, has dumped Governor Douye Diri and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All-Progressives Congress (APC), citing hunger as his major reason for defection.
Kurubo said he had to return to the APC before he dies of hunger as a political appointee to a serving governor.
According to him, he had no choice but to come out with the truth and clear his image as family members, dependants and acquaintances who depended on him have lost faith in him because he can no longer afford to take care of his responsibilities, despite working with the Diri prosperity government.
“My position as a serving SSA to the governor on special duties, is supposed to have a positive impact on the lives of those around me especially my immediate family but unfortunately, recharging my phone for effective communication would have been a great challenge if not for the timely intervention of other critical stakeholders from our Niger Delta region.
“It is such a pity that with the level of hunger and starvation deliberately created by the governor, Senator Douye Diri, the administration still mustered courage to garner the kind of support I see and perceive from some Bayelsans.
“Does it mean we have not learnt enough? Or are we yet to understand that we will be heading into another four years of real hardship which will be worse than what we are currently experiencing or even more? Where is our sense of pride?”, he said.
The ex-militant leader challenged political appointees in the government to challenge him over his claims.
He called on Bayelsans to join the Sylva/MacIver campaign, stressing that the people must align with a system that will create a programme to meet the needs of stakeholders in the development of the state.
He said Bayelsans’ support for the Sylva/MacIver mandate should not be seen as a regular election but a political revolution through the ballot, to help advance equity and justice and empower men, women from all works of life in developing the state.
Gen. Kurobo called on the people of the state with voting age to, as a matter of necessity, ensure that they collect their PVCs and vote out the Diri-led government.
He said, “On behalf of my family, the APC leadership from the least unit of the state to the hierarchy, I enjoined all of us from all walks of life to rise to the occasion and take up the challenge to the effect that Chief Timipre Sylva returns elected come November 11, 2023
