From Paul Orude, Bauchi
The Bauchi State Police Command has busted another drug syndicate, arresting a convicted drug dealer and rescuing a 14-year-old boy allegedly used as a courier.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this, describing the operation by the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) as evidence of the command’s sustained efforts to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
Habib said the unit had also secured the conviction of all suspects arrested in previous operations.
According to him, on October 26, 2026, at about 11am, VCRU operatives, led by the officer-in-charge, intercepted a 14-year-old boy, identified as Samuel Nkemakolan Kosi, while he was allegedly on his way to deliver a pinch of granular whitish substance suspected to be methamphetamine, popularly known as Ice, to a customer.
“Upon interrogation, the minor confessed that he was sent by one Samuel Ogochukwu, 22, a convicted drug dealer, to make the delivery. Sequel to this, detectives immediately traced and arrested the said Ogochukwu at his location,” the PPRO said.
He added that a thorough search of the suspect’s shop and residence led to the recovery of 3.5 grammes of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine; 17 sachets of 100mg Tramadol capsules; five sachets of 300mg Pregabalin capsules; seven sachets of Diazepam; 12 Exol tablets; two wraps of a substance known as “Yellow Boys”; and one sachet of “Shine Shine Leather”.
Habib further disclosed that, during interrogation, the principal suspect revealed that he received his illicit drug supplies through waybills from Onitsha, Anambra State.
He said the 14-year-old boy had been handled in line with juvenile justice best practices and would be reunited with his family after counselling.
The principal suspect, he added, would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the VCRU for its consistency, determination and results-oriented policing.
According to the PPRO, the commissioner noted that four major drug busts and subsequent convictions within 10 days sent a strong warning to criminal elements in the state.
Aliyu assured residents that the command would sustain its efforts against drug trafficking and all forms of criminality in Bauchi State.
