The Bauchi State Government has taken proactive steps to end recurring problems of farmers-herders clashes, chieftaincy tussles and other communal disputes across communities in the state.
This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Saratu Jibrin, during a Ministerial briefing organized by the state Ministry for Information and Digital Communication, in Bauchi.
Jibrin explained that the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed was deeply concerned about the frequent clashes between herders and farmers as well as disputes over chieftaincy and boundaries in the state.
She said as a proactive measure to address the recurring problems, the governor set up a high-powered committee which is coordinated by the ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs.
The Permanent Secretary disclosed that the committee would look into cases related to illegal allocation of reserved grazing areas in all the 20 Local Government of the state to prevent farmers-herders clashes
She said the committee was also empowered to liaise with the Ministry for Internal Security and Home Affairs in order to address issues of disagreement related to chieftaincy affairs, land dispute, migration and resettlement related matters among others.
Jibrin disclosed that the ministry has recorded many success within the five years under review in order to complement the effort of the government through proper utilization of available meagre resources at its disposal to render various assistance to members of the Community.

“From inception of the presentation administration more than five years ago, we have witnessed an unprecedented development throughout the 20 Local Government Areas some of which include Prompt Payment of Local Governments Staff Salaries, Implementation of outstanding promotions of staff of the Local Governments,” she stated.
“The ministry procured official vehicles for the Local Government Chairmen, Deputy Chairmen, District Heads and Council Secretaries for effective service delivery.
“Constructed and installed Solar Powered Inverter at the Ministry Headquarters to serve as an alternative source of power supply with the view to creating a conducive working atmosphere for staff.
“Renovated Area Offices, purchased nine Toyota Hilux for distribution to the six (6)
Area Offices and Headquarters, and completed renovation of all the 20 Local Government Secretariat and supplied furniture”.
The Permanent Secretary disclosed that the ministry has also constructed mosques and churches across all the Local Government in the State.
Other achievements, she disclosed, include the Construction and upgrading of the Bauchi, Katagum, Ningi, Jama’are and Dass Emirs Palaces, construction and upgrading of Districts Head Palaces across the
State, purchase of Lexus Jeeps for the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN Bauchi State among several others.
A minute silence was observed for the late Commssioner Alh. Ahmed Aliyu Jalam who was initially meant to make this presentation, before the briefing was rescheduled.
