The Bauchi State Government has suspended with immediate effect, commercial activities in several cattle markets across four local government areas.

The affected councils are Alkaleri, Bauchi, Kirfi, and Tafawa Balewa.

This was contained in a press release signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the governor, Comrade Mukhtar Mohammed Gidado, on Friday.

According to the release, a total of 14 markets in Alkaleri, one in Bauchi, five in Kirfi, and five in Tafawa Balewa local governments have been shut down.

It explained that the suspension aims to curb security issues, including cattle rustling, killings, kidnapping, and extortion, linked to these markets.

The governor approved the measure, citing significant economic losses and threats to community livelihoods, and directed security agencies to enforce the order, which will remain in place until further notice.

The press release enjoined local authorities and traditional leaders to sensitise the public and monitor implementation.
