Battle Axe women fete 96 widows in Enugu

In a demonstration of the importance of women as special creations, members of the Battle Axe Women Fellowship International, BAWFI, organized a reception to recognize widows and draw global attention to their plight.

In this year’s event, the association showered gift items on them. In her remark, the group’s president, Dr. Linda Oge Okoye, said the problem of widows had become a global challenge and urged the federal and state governments to introduce social security allowance to ameliorate their plight.

Okoye stated that the harsh economic climate in the country had worsened their condition and made survival extremely difficult for them, as many of them could no longer afford a meal a day, not to talk of shelter.

She noted that the introduction of social security for widows in the country had become inevitable if they must survive, calling on Corporate Nigeria and multinationals to introduce measures to assist widows such as lowcost housing for the poor.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of gift items to the over 96 widows in attendance.
