BATN Foundation has empowered 200 women in Jigawa State with poultry assets and enterprise training to boost household income, improve food security and create sustainable livelihoods in rural communities.
The beneficiaries received Noiler birds, poultry feed and medication under the Foundation’s EMPOWER-Her Poultry Project, following training in poultry production and enterprise management.
The initiative was inaugurated on September 4, 2026, in Dutse, Jigawa State, in collaboration with the Jigawa State Government and other development partners.
The intervention is designed to enable the women to establish and manage poultry enterprises while creating opportunities for regular income through the sale of eggs and meat.
Speaking at the inauguration, Project Manager of BATN Foundation, Adetola Oniyelu, said the initiative was focused on helping women build productive businesses rather than merely providing agricultural inputs.
“For us, empowerment goes beyond providing inputs. It is about creating opportunities for women to build productive businesses, generate income, contribute to household food security and strengthen their economic resilience,” Oniyelu said.

He added that supporting the beneficiaries to participate in the poultry value chain would create pathways to sustainable livelihoods while strengthening their capacity to contribute to the economic wellbeing of their families and communities.
Poultry production, according to the Foundation, offers rural women an accessible agricultural enterprise through which they can generate income while contributing to household nutrition and food availability.
The project is also expected to strengthen the economic resilience of beneficiary families by providing productive assets alongside practical knowledge required to manage poultry enterprises.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Muttaka Namadi; Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hadiza Abdulwahab; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Auwalu Ado Shehu; and other stakeholders attended the inauguration.
Government officials commended the intervention and urged the beneficiaries to manage the poultry assets as sustainable businesses capable of generating long-term value.
The EMPOWER-Her Poultry Project forms part of BATN Foundation’s efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment and inclusive agricultural development, with the latest intervention targeting 200 women across rural communities in Jigawa State.
