Super Falcons and Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala has been omitted from Jonathan Giraldez’s squad amid NWSL links.
The official reason provided by the Catalan club for the Nigerian missing out has been due to “personal reasons’’. It is believed that the absence stems from the fact that she is set for a way out of the club due to her limited minutes with the Liga F champions.
The Catalan club is set to accept a fee of $163,000 (about N146,569,600) from an unnamed NWSL side for the Nigerian attacker, according to Diario Sport. The 29-year-old striker has been upset with her playing time of late, and with her contract up in June, Barca is looking to cash in to avoid losing her on a free transfer this summer.
This season, Oshoala has made 14 appearances, however, she has only received three starts. She has nevertheless been clinical, netting eight goals in the process. If she moves to NWSL, she will follow Giraldez, who has agreed a pre-contract agreement with the Washington Spirit this summer.
Oshoala has 107 goals in 149 appearances for Barcelona since joining in 2019, averaging .71 goals per-game since her arrival at the club. Talk about clinical.
The Nigerian attacker will hope her move comes to fruition soon enough, while NWSL sides prepare for the upcoming season. The new campaign begins March 16, with Portland Thorns vs KC Current.
