Barcelona are lining up a shock move for Sporting CP striker, Luis Suárez as an alternative if their pursuit of Atlético Madrid’s Julian Álvarez collapses.
The 28-year-old Colombian has emerged on Deco’s radar after Barcelona’s €100m approach for Álvarez stalled, with Atlético refusing to negotiate and demanding the forward’s €500m release clause be met.
Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday that Barcelona added Suárez among list of targets should Alvarez not join.
“Colombian forward seen as possible solution from next week depending on final verdict on Julián as Atléti keep rejecting.
“Not an easy movement with Sporting but Barça are informed and attentive on striker market, evaluating more options,” Romano wrote on Facebook on Friday.

Spanish journalist, Gerard Romero also reported that the Suárez pursuit is “very real” and has got manager, Hansi Flick’s green light.
Suárez, who joined Sporting from Almeria in 2025, hit 28 goals to become Primeira Liga top scorer in his debut season.
Sources at Barça say Flick wants a “static No.9” who can hold up play, occupy centre-backs and allow the wingers to thrive — the exact profile Suárez has provided in Lisbon.
At 1.85m, physical, and with experience in Champions League football, the Colombian fits the Lewandowski mould more than the Álvarez profile, although Barcelona remain keen on the Argentine.
He’s also far cheaper, with Sporting valuing him at around €35m-€40m compared to the €100m+ it would take to prise Álvarez from Madrid.
