Scores of suspected bandits reportedly went on the rampage in Katsina on Sunday, killing a police officer and two motorists.

The marauding terrorists also attacked a police station in Matazu Local Government Area, during which a policeman lost his life.

The hoodlums had earlier blocked the Karadua–Musawa road, where they opened fire on an oncoming Volkswagen Golf car, fatally shooting two persons.

Embattled Governor Umaru Radda Dikko on Sunday visited the Sayaya community, where the hoodlums had razed the primary healthcare facility.

“During the visit, the Governor condoled with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and officers over the death of the policeman and extended his sympathies to the families affected by the violence,” a Government House statement said.

A separate statement on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said that “the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, has deployed additional operational assets to the area to strengthen security and prevent further attacks. An investigation has commenced with a view to apprehending the perpetrators.”
