Bandits kill seven farmers in Niger ambush

The terrorists attacks in Borgu local government area of Niger state has continued unabated as no fewer than seven farmers were ambushed and killed by armed men suspected to be bandits.

The latest attack occured on Friday when the farmers from Gbere community in Wawa district of Borgu local government ran into an ambush by the bandits and opened fire on them, killing seven.

According to a reliable source close to the community, the men were on a search and rescue mission after two of the community members were declared missing earlier in the day before they were ambushed.

“About two people who went to their farms in the morning could not return and it was gathered that the bandits have killed them so the youths mobilized and went in search of them, but unfortunately they were ambushed and killed by the bandits.

“Up till now we don’t know the whereabouts of the two people that were missing. We no longer have peace in this community”.

It was further gathered that it took the assistance of the Nigerian troops stationed in the area recovered the bodies and returned them to Wawa-Gbere community for burial.

However, our source disclosed that the whereabouts of the two victims earlier declared missing remain unknown.

He gave the names of those killed to include Naziru Suraju, Luqman Murtala, Salihu Issa (Baabe), Zakari Ibrahim (aka Bagado Bobo) , Bashir Abdullah and Abdulrahman Yahaya.

This attack is coming barely two weeks after a group of gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked the same Gbere  community and killed four cattle rearers and went away with their cattle.

Also killed in the attack which occured few hours after the state governor Umaru Mohammed Bago paid a condolence visit to the people of Borgu kingdom over the killings in the area, was an 85 years old woman in the community.

According to a source close to the community, the terrorists had invaded the community in their numbers with motorcycles and equally catered away some food items.
