No fewer than eight villages in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State have been forced to flee for fear of attacks by bandits.
The council chairman, Augie Local Government Area, Alhaji Lawal Muhammad, assured that security had been beefed up in the area and called on the people not to panic.
Speaking with the newsmen, the Village Head of Zagi, Malam Muhammadu Lawali-Sule, explained that the suspected bandits stormed the village around midnight, adding that the residents collectively resisted the attack but were overpowered by the bandits.
According to him, this led to the killing of some villagers, abduction of many. Victims of the attacks were said to be responding to treatment in various hospitals.
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Mogaji Kontagora, was said to have joined patrol team to the affected communities, and assured the residents of maximum security of their lives and property.
It will be recalled that some suspected bandits had on Wednesday night attacked a neighbouring Zagi village, where three people lost their lives, while many were injured.
While reacting to the development, Alhaji Magaji-Kontagora said the command was on top of the situation, adding that additional security personnel had been mobilised to the area to further strengthen those already on ground.
The spokesman of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Abubakar Kebbi confirmed that state police boss had deployed additional personnel to prevent bandits’ infiltration.
According to him, “sequel to the reported invasion of Zagi village in Augie LGA of Kebbi State, a border community with Silame LGA of Sokoto State by suspected bandits on the August 18, 2022, at about 02:05hrs, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State command, CP Ahmed Magaji Kontagora and his management team had today Friday, 19th August, 2022, patrolled Zagi-Augie road for an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in the area and personally supervised the deployment of tactical teams drafted to restore normalcy in the area.”
