Residents of Barga in Awon ward, Kachia Local Government Area, Kaduna State, now have hope for relief as Governor Uba Sani has approved a Military Forward Operations Base (FOB).

Located near Rijana forest, a major bandit stronghold, Barga has faced severe losses from frequent attacks.

During a tour of the project by All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Kachia, community leader Zanko Adamu expressed optimism. “This base will reduce bandit attacks,” he said. He noted that kidnappings and cattle rustling had forced many to abandon homes and farmlands.

Resident Mark Bawa praised the governor’s swift response to the community’s request. “This has rekindled our hope,” he said. He explained that attacks have impoverished the once-thriving farming community, reducing agricultural output and causing food shortages. “Our community was peaceful and productive until these criminals started wreaking havoc,” he added. “I pray this nightmare ends.”

Hannatu Dikko, another resident, highlighted the socio-economic toll. “Businesses have shut down, and schools are closed, leaving children without education,” she said.

Kachia LGA Chairman, Dr Manzo Maigari, said the base aligns with the state’s rural infrastructure drive.

“Once completed, the FOB will enable swift military response and surveillance,” he said. He urged residents to share local intelligence with security agencies, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.
