From Ola Muhammad, Birnin Kebbi
Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris has assured Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Bagudo Local Government Area of the state that the government is firmly committed to strengthening security in their communities and across the state.
Idris gave the assurance while addressing the displaced persons in Bagudo on his way to Kaoje, where he was scheduled to commiserate with the people over the killing of the Village Head of Lafagu, Alhaji Saidu Mujeli, and recent attacks allegedly carried out by heavily armed vigilantes (Yanbanga) from neighbouring Niger State.
The governor said his administration was deeply concerned about the security situation and would take additional measures to protect lives and property and restore confidence among affected communities.
“I want to assure you that the state government will take additional security measures to improve security in your communities and other parts of the state. We will not allow our people to continue living in fear or being displaced from their homes,” Governor Idris stated.
Idris expressed deep sadness at the sight of the displaced persons, describing the situation as painful and unacceptable, particularly where innocent citizens are forced to abandon their homes and means of livelihood as a result of attacks.
