Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen made history yesterday as he ranked among the 10th best footballer in the world by French Football, the organisers of the Ballon d’Or.

The Nigerian in the ceremony on Monday night at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, ended up becoming the highest-ranked African player in the 2023 Ballon d’Or rankings, after beating Egyptian Mohammed Salah who was ranked 11th in the world.

Osimhen had a stellar performance in the Italian Serie A last season, after helping Napoli to the title, ending their 33-year wait to lift the Scudetto.

He became the first-ever African player to win the Golden Boot, also known as the ‘Capocannoniere,’ edging out competition from Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez to land the coveted individual accolade.

His impressive goal-scoring record of 26 goals in 32 Serie A appearances was pivotal in Napoli’s title triumph

The 24-year-old further beat George Weah’s record of 47 goals in the Italian top flight.
