Bala Mohammed vows to keep Bauchi peaceful during 2027 campaigns

Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has pledged to protect the state’s peaceful atmosphere throughout the 2027 electioneering period, urging politicians and their supporters to reject violence, personal attacks and other actions capable of disrupting public order.

The governor made the call in Bauchi on Wednesday after returning from an official engagement in Abuja, where he spoke with journalists on the need for political parties to comply with electoral laws and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mohammed assured that his party, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), would abide by INEC regulations and other laws governing political activities, while encouraging rival parties to do the same.

He said campaign activities should focus on policies, programmes and ideas capable of improving the lives of citizens rather than personal attacks, violence or other forms of political provocation.

The governor disclosed that some of his campaign posters and billboards had been destroyed by political opponents but said he had deliberately refused to retaliate, despite knowing those allegedly responsible.

He stressed that his restraint should not be interpreted as weakness, saying his position as governor would not be used to persecute political opponents or settle political scores.

“I have provided a level playing field for political actors in the state, urging them not to take my humility and restraint for granted,” he said, calling on political actors to exercise similar restraint and respect the law.

Mohammed noted that Bauchi had built a reputation for peace and warned that political activities must not threaten the peaceful coexistence among residents.

He said his administration was already preparing for the 2027 campaigns, which would be taken to communities across the state.

The governor also urged traditional rulers and security agencies to remain impartial during the electioneering period, stressing the importance of fairness, mutual respect and responsible conduct among all stakeholders.

He commended the peaceful conduct witnessed so far among some political parties, candidates and their supporters, expressing hope that the spirit of restraint would continue through the elections.

Mohammed assured residents that his administration would continue taking steps to preserve peace in Bauchi, while urging political actors and other stakeholders to avoid actions that could trigger violence or security challenges.
