Hundreds of Muslim ummah converged Friday at the Badagry City Hall for the Annual Ramadan Lecture organised by Member for Badagry Federal Constituency of Lagos State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan.
SunOnline reports that the lecture titled, ‘Governance & Continuity: Islamic Perspective’ examined the principles of effective leadership, succession, and institutional stability in governance through the lens of Islamic teachings, drawing on Qur’anic guidance.
In his address, Hon. Whingan harped on the need to seek Allah’s face by stepping up prayers for Nigeria and Badagry federal constituency.
He noted that Ramadan remains a period of personal sacrifice through which Allah’s mercy can be accessed.
The federal lawmaker affirmed his readiness to always identify with the Muslim community in Badagry federation.
He explained that Muslims must always seek deeper knowledge of Allah, hence his decision to facilitate the coming of a renowned Islamic scholar, Fadilat Sheikh Abubakar Issa Baba Ote as guest lecturer.
The Guest Lecturer, Fadilat Sheikh Abubakar Issa Baba Ote observed that any officeholder that has performed creditably in office deserved to be rewarded with another term.
He charged politicians not to elevate themselves above the citizenry once elected or appointed into office.
The Ilorin, Kwara State-based cleric discouraged the electorate from allowing themselves to be induced with money or material gifts to vote.
“You’ll suffer if you vote for the wrong candidate,” he warned.
Baba Ote described Hon. Whingan as a “good Rep”, emphasising that only good representatives should be rewarded with another term in office.
He maintained that Hon. Whingan’s God-given wisdom belies his age.
The Islamic scholar reiterated that the federal lawmaker has set a good precedent in office and is on course to break the single-term jinx for Badagry lawmaker in the House of Representatives.
He encouraged the Muslim ummah to pray for the lawmaker to continue his positive impacts in the constituency.
Dignitaries at the event include Personal Assistant to the President on Special Duties, Hon. Kamorudeen Yusuf, Vice-Chairman of Badagry LGA, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi, Chief Imam of Badagry Division, Sheikh Abdulhakeem Uwais Akewusola, among others.
