Babcock University (BU), Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, would on Wednesday, February 22nd shut down the institution in line with the ministerial directive.
The Director, Marketing and Communication of BU, Dr Joshua Suleiman, said the decision to go on break was taken on Friday by the Senate of the university.
He added: “Our Senate at its meeting yesterday (Friday) resolved to comply with the National Universities Commission (NUC) directive.
“We shall be shutting down and suspending academic activities from February 22nd. We will resume on March 15th, 2023.”
The Federal Government on February 3rd, 2023 through NUC directed vice-chancellors and directors/chief executives of inter-university centres to shut down their institutions from February 22nd to March 14th.
The circular to VCs and directors of centres, which was signed by the NUC Deputy Executive Secretary (administration), Dr Chris Maiyaki, said the shutdown is because of the forthcoming presidential and national assembly election on February 25th and gubernatorial and state assembly poll on March 11th.
