Fego Ayetuoma cruised into the quarter-finals of the ongoing ITF World Tennis Tour Junior J30 Abuja on Wednesday, defeating Bisola Ogunkolade 6-2, 6-2 in the female singles category.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the International Tennis Federation (ITF) event is the second-leg of the Tour.

The tour which started on Feb.19 is expected to end on Sunday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Ayetuoma kept the pressure on with a string of forehand winners throughout the match round of 16.

She was winning the first set 6-2 before Ogunkolade fought back in a better way in the second set.

Ayetuoma wrapped up the second set in 46 minutes with another well-targeted forehand 6-2.

Speaking after the match, Ayetuoma expressed joy over her performances in the match.

“I was not around during the first-leg of the tournament. This is my first match today and I won. I played my first match against a player that I am better than, so it is a thing of joy to me.

“And I know with time, I will make further progress as the tournament progresses.

“In this tournament, I am just looking forward to getting rankings and points and playing my best right now,” she said.

NAN reports that Ayetuoma will in the next game face Khadijat Mohammed who defeated Etoro Bassey (6-3,6-1) to advance to the quarterfinals stage.

NAN also reports that in other singles round of 16 matches, Blessing Otu defeated Faith Adeusi 6-1,6-2, Toluwalashe Agunbiade humbled Fareehah Adams 6-1,6-1 and Khadijat Mohammed overpowered Etoro Bassey 6-3,6-1.
