In a bid to support the youth in the technology space, AXA Mansard Insurance Plc has partnered Techpoint Africa to also deepen Nigeria’s insurance coverage beyond its current one per cent.
Speaking during Techpoint Build Conference in Lagos, the Chief Digital Officer AXA Mansard, Mr Bayo Adesanya said the aim of the conference was to identify with technology space with the understanding that the whole world is going digital already and to identify with the youth because they are the future.
According to him, majority of the country is not well represented in the insurance or non-banking financial services space because coverage for insurance in the country is below one per cent.
“We feel that if we are going to address that and spread the benefits that come from the services of that sector, it is important to engage youths and in a technology-driven way.
“Nigeria has a huge youths population, which is about 60 per cent of our population and most of them are under 30 and doing great things with technology.
“Our objectives and focus is to take our services to as many people that we can reach using digital channels. As part of the measure to reach out to many people, we recently launched the USSD service which takes our services to people who may not have smart phone.
Advising start-ups, Bayo said,Nigeria is a developing country which means there is a lot of opportunities for those who are willing to find problems and provide solutions to them.
“There will always be some reward. Obviously, we have to leverage on technology because it also helps to reduce the cost of providing services.”
Also speaking, the Founder of Techpoint Africa, Mr Adewale Yusuf said the conference wasborne out of the need to support start-ups and small businesses with the necessary skills to develop a profitable business.
According to him, experts in different fields were brought in to help businesses understand the intricacies of having and building a successful business in Africa.
