FIBA Africa Zone 3 champions, the Nigeria Customs will today face face Inter Clube of Angola in the Quarter Finals of the 2023 FIBA Africa Women’s Basketball League, AWBL
According to FIBA.basketball, the Nigeria Customs finished third in Group A behind Alexandria Sporting Club of Egypt, Kenya Ports Authority, KPA of Kenya while University de Douala and C.N.S.S, closed the first round in fourth and fifth places respectively
Customs will need to bring their best to the court when they face Inter Clube of Angola, who won three games in Group B after brushing aside ASPAC by 79-34 in their last group game.
The Border Girls had beaten CNSS to reach this stage thanks to their defense in which they recorded 57 rebounds, 11 steals and 7 blocks.
Customs entered the last group game with a 1-2 record but proved her mettle after a second quarter scare by the Congolese side to win the game by 66-57 points (26-15, 06-18, 13-12, 21-12) to finish as the third best team in Group A.
Customs duo of captain Nkem Akaraiwe and Olaoluwatomi Taiwo combined for 44 points of the total points recorded by the Customs with Akaraiwe producing another double double performance of 20 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks and 27 efficiency rating while Taiwo led the floor with 24 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 17 efficiency rating.
