An auto-mechanic, Olajide Tope, popularly known as Meco, has committed suicide in Otan-Ile, Odo-Otin Local Government of Osun State.

Though reason for his action was not ascertained, investigation revealed that the deceased had an argument with his wife Wednesday night over a yet-to-be ascertained matter and committed suicide Thursday night.

A source who pleaded anonymity said, “we don’t know what led to the disagreement between him and his wife on Wednesday. We thought the matter has been settled after intervention of some residents. We were surprised to hear that he has hung himself.”

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident on Friday.

She said the command is aware of the incident and personnel were immediately deployed to ensure calm and maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the area.

She said the state commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, has advised married couples and individuals experiencing emotional challenges to always reach out to the Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit of NSCDC, Osun State command.

“The unit has successfully mediated and resolved numerous cases, offering support and guidance to those in distress.

“No one should ever feel compelled to take his or her own life. Every life is valuable and irreplaceable,” Adeleke added.
