Ahead of the 2027 general elections, suave corporate lawyer, social activist, and co-founder of the Chocolate City Group, Audu Maikori, has decided to take a dive into the murky waters of politics as he declared his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for Jaba/Zangon Kataf Federal Constituency in Kaduna State on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Maikori declared his intention to run for the office via a post on his Instagram page with a message that he would be running with a simple formula: “Vision Action Results.” He described himself as a proud Nigerian from Southern Kaduna and would be battling for the legislative ticket with the incumbent lawmaker, Amos Gwamna Magaji, who currently serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Health.
Maikori’s trajectory as a lawyer and social critic has been spectacular. Through his legal career, he was opportune to be part of a team that handled Nigeria’s most complex infrastructure transactions, including the privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN; the Nigerian Ports concession; the Abuja Mass Transit framework; the Nigerian Railway Concession, as well as building Chocolate City into one of Africa’s most recognised music companies.
He has also served on the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme Presidential Committee (SURE-P) as not only the youngest Board member but as the Project Convener —Maikori helped to create jobs for 370,000 young Nigerians and internship opportunities for over 23,000 interns across Nigeria.
Before formally launching into politics, Maikori, 51, had been vocal about the persistent crises in Southern Kaduna, the constituency he seeks to represent. He was also known for his vocal criticism of the government, particularly the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai which led to a series of arrests and temporary relocation on self-exile to the United States.
