… Educate students on smart waste recycling initiatives

In an era where environmental challenges loom large, the Atunlo Sustainability Initiative took the message to Ibadan Grammar school where it recently inaugurated Green Club in the school.
This trailblazing project was the innovative vision of the CEO, Anita Odiete, and COO, Ayo Ogunlowo, as they proudly unveiled the project at Ibadan Grammar School, Oyo State. Although the event took place in November 2023, signifying a crucial move towards nurturing young individuals into environmental stewards and advocates within their local environments and beyond, it has continued to enjoy goodwill among Nigerians who yearn for a cleaner environment.

A collaborative effort with 7up enabled Atunlo to provide the school with 235 cartons of drinks, kickstarting an initiative that not only promotes the responsible collection and disposal of plastic bottles but also emphasizes the importance of recycling. This partnership underscores a proactive approach to environmental education, aligning with Atunlo’s mission to cultivate a generation that is conscientious about sustainability and proactive in its pursuit.

Confronting Environmental Challenges
With the planet facing unprecedented environmental degradation and climate change, educating our youth on these issues has become a pressing necessity. The Green Club, envisioned by Anita Odiete and Ayo Ogunlowo, aims to address this urgent need by offering a comprehensive sustainability education through a meticulously designed 52-week curriculum. The initiative’s impact was immediate, with over 3000 students sensitized about environmental stewardship at its launch, showcasing Atunlo’s commitment to fostering an informed future generation.
Laying the Groundwork for Sustainability
The curriculum guides students through a journey of sustainability, from the basics of eco-friendly practices and waste reduction to more advanced concepts like thecircular economyy and corporate social responsibility. This educational foundation is crucial for building a sustainable future, a vision passionately shared by Anita Odiete and Ayo Ogunlowo.
Experiential Learning for Real-world Impact
What sets The Green Club apart is its strong emphasis on experiential learning. Through a series of practical activities, field trips, and real-world projects, students can apply their newfound knowledge in impactful ways. This hands-on approach is a cornerstone of the initiative, with 43 students stepping up as eco-champions in the newly inaugurated Recycling Club, dedicated to leading sustainable practices both within the school and in the wider community.
