Member representing Enugu North/Enugu South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chimaobi Atu, has commended President Bola Tinubu and Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, for what he described as bold and purposeful leadership, even as he unveiled a scorecard of his stewardship since he assumed office.

Atu said both Tinubu and Mbah have demonstrated strong commitment towards governance and development, stressing that their leadership style reflects determination in confronting critical challenges facing both the country and Enugu State.

Speaking during a media parley in Enugu, the federal lawmaker said his own focus at the National Assembly has remained delivering people-centred programmes capable of improving living standards and addressing pressing developmental challenges affecting communities within his constituency.

While reviewing his achievements, he said education remains one of the strongest pillars of his intervention programmes, revealing that more than 800 students are currently benefiting from his scholarship scheme.

“We currently have over 800 persons benefiting from our scholarship programme. Beyond that, we have paid WAEC and NECO examination fees for students while continuing to invest heavily in improving access to quality education,” he said.

According to him, his office has rehabilitated the Chemistry Laboratory at  Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), renovated science laboratories in several secondary schools and constructed new classroom blocks alongside basic science laboratories across selected schools in the constituency.

On human capital development, he disclosed that hundreds of women and youths had benefited from empowerment programmes designed to improve livelihoods and expand economic opportunities.

“Training and empowerment of over 350 women and youths in chemical production, as well as training over 200 youths on artificial intelligence, forms part of our commitment to ensure our people remain competitive in today’s realities,” he stated.

He added that women farmers across the constituency had also received agricultural inputs and chemicals to improve productivity, while poultry farmers were supported with birds, feeds and other essential resources needed to establish sustainable businesses.

Speaking on healthcare interventions, he said medical outreach programmes were organised in underserved rural communities to make healthcare accessible to vulnerable residents, especially elderly citizens.

“We carried out medical outreach programmes mostly in rural communities. It gave us the opportunity to serve elderly people who ordinarily have limited access to healthcare services,” he explained.

On security, the lawmaker said solar-powered streetlights had been installed across all 26 wards within the constituency as part of efforts to improve safety and tackle criminal activities.

“We provided solar street lights across all 26 wards because we understand that proper lighting can significantly reduce insecurity within communities,” he said.

He further revealed that his legislative contributions at the House of Representatives include sponsorship of 17 bills, four motions and two petitions.

Among the proposed bills, he said, are those seeking the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Ugwuaji-Awkunanaw, a National Football Academy in Enugu State and an Erosion Control Commission.

The lawmaker added that road infrastructure remains a major area of focus, with several strategic road projects currently ongoing across communities in the federal constituency.

“All these interventions are driven by our commitment to improve the quality of life of our people and ensure they enjoy the real dividends of democracy,” Atu said.

He maintained that effective leadership at both federal and state levels remains critical to sustaining development, expressing confidence that the administrations of President Tinubu and Governor Mbah will continue to deliver positive results for Nigerians.
