Atlético Madrid produced a dominant display at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Wednesday, sweeping aside Osasuna 4-0 in their Spanish La Liga encounter.
Jonathan David opened the scoring in the 24th minute, giving Atlético a 1-0 lead at half-time after the hosts controlled much of the first half.
Atlético continued their assault after the break, with Lee Kang-In doubling the advantage in the 54th minute. David provided the assist as the home side quickly turned their territorial dominance into a commanding lead.
Robin Le Normand then made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute before Álex Baena completed the rout eight minutes from full time, with J. Cardoso supplying the assist.
The scale of Atlético’s dominance was reflected in the match statistics. They enjoyed 67.8 per cent possession and produced 27 shots, including 11 on target, while Osasuna managed only three shots and one effort on target.
Atlético also registered 46 touches inside the Osasuna penalty area compared with nine for the visitors and won eight corners without conceding one. Osasuna goalkeeper made seven saves, while Atlético’s goalkeeper was required to make just one.
The hosts were equally superior in distribution, completing 656 passes at an 88.4 per cent accuracy rate against Osasuna’s 314 passes at 73.9 per cent. Atlético also completed 186 successful passes in the final third, compared with 36 by Osasuna.
The result was secured at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in front of 60,869 spectators, with Atlético finishing the night four goals clear and Osasuna unable to find a response.
