Amidst the ongoing crisis within the top brass of the Jigawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has waded in with a view to amicably resolving the disagreement between the governorship candidate, Sen. Sabo Muhammad Nakudu, and one of the party’s governorship aspirants, Bashir Adamu Jimbo.
At a reconciliatory meeting held with the duo in Abuja, the former Vice-President urged them to close ranks and work together with a view to ensuring the party’s victory in the February 6, 2027, gubernatorial poll.
A statement by the media office of the governorship candidate in Dutse, signed by Malam Mati Ali, quoted the former senator as reaffirming his commitment to adhering to Atiku’s reconciliatory efforts aimed at bringing lasting peace within the party’s hierarchy.
He, however, disputed a claim by one of the chieftains of the party, Ali Tukur Gantsa, about the reconciliation meeting, stating that Atiku’s published statement remains the authoritative account of the meeting, emphasising unity, reconciliation, cooperation, mutual respect and renewed trust.
Atiku was quoted as saying: “Today, we have chosen unity over division and cooperation over acrimony,” adding: “The contest is behind us. The task ahead is greater than any individual ambition.”
The statement, however, said subsequent reports attributed to Gantsa, which contained references to court cases, the candidate list and maintaining the status quo, were not contained in Atiku’s published statement. It therefore urged that such claims be attributed strictly to their source and not to Atiku.
The statement further clarified that Gantsa was not part of the substantive reconciliation engagement involving Atiku, Nakudu and Jimbo, noting that his appearance in a wider group photograph did not establish participation in the discussions.
Nakudu welcomed Atiku’s intervention and reaffirmed his commitment to reconciliation, party unity, mutual respect and cooperation.
The clarification, the statement said, was intended to preserve the integrity of the public record and prevent the conflation of Atiku’s position with subsequent narratives.
