Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, has said the visit by former First Lady Aisha Buhari reinforced the need to build a Nigeria where citizens’ welfare and dignity are prioritised.
Atiku disclosed this in a statement on his X account on Wednesday after receiving the former First Lady during a meeting.
He described the visit as warm and significant, saying it went beyond the courtesies of the occasion to highlight the responsibility of those seeking a better Nigeria.
“I was delighted to receive former First Lady, H.E. Aisha Buhari. Her visit was warm and deeply appreciated.
“Beyond the courtesies of the occasion, it was also a reminder of the urgent responsibility before all who seek a better Nigeria: to put the welfare, dignity and future of our people first,” he said.
Atiku said many Nigerian families were facing growing financial pressure as the cost of food, transportation, education, healthcare and other essential needs continued to weigh on household incomes.
He said Nigerians deserved an economy that would create opportunities, reward hard work and enable families to live with dignity and hope.
“Nigerians deserve an economy that rewards hard work, restores opportunity and allows every family to live with dignity and hope,” he said.
The former Vice-President said achieving that objective would require collective efforts to reduce the economic burden on citizens and restore confidence in the country’s future.
“That is the Nigeria we must build together, a country that works for its people again. We must ease the burden, restore hope and make Nigeria Affordable Again,” he added.
The meeting comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to intensify, with Atiku emerging as the ADC’s presidential candidate.
