Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu have expressed shock and sadness over the passing of Akeredolu and Na’Abba.
Atiku, in a statement he personally signed, described the late Akeredolu as a quintessential gentleman who took the finesse to governance.
He said Akeredolu was a politician of class because he was never known for destructive politics.
The presidential candidate of the PDP said Na’Abba, on the other hand, raised the bar of legislative enterprise in Nigeria.
He said it was evident that the first session of the National Assembly where he served with distinction from 1999-2003 remained one of the best in the annals of our legislature.
“Both Akeredolu, Aketi, as he was fondly called, and Na’Abba will be sorely missed for the inestimable roles that they played in our national development.
“I express deepest condolences to their respective families and pray to God to grant their souls a peaceful repose.
“I also join the good people and governments of both Ondo and Kano states to mourn the demise of these towering political figures,” he said.
in a condolence message, Dr. Kalu, chairman, Senate Committee on Privatisation, described Governor Akeredolu’s death as a huge loss to the country stressing that he was bold, courageous, fearless and selfless.
“Akeredolu was an accomplished Nigerian, well known in the legal profession and political circle. He contributed immensely towards nation building through various platforms.”
He urged the Akeredolu family to uphold the remarkable legacies of their late patriarch, especially his outstanding leadership qualities.
“I commiserate on behalf of my constituents, with the government and people of Ondo over Gov. Akeredolu’s demise.
“The late politician played invaluable roles in the growth and sustenance of Nigeria’s democracy.
“He was indeed an accomplished Nigerian in all ramifications and will be missed for his counsel on national issues.”
Kalu prayed for the eternal repose of Akeredolu’s soul.
Kalu while acknowledging Na’Abba’s contributions to nation building, The former Abia State governor said he was a consummate politician with passion for humanity.
“I urge the Na’Abba family to take solace in the fact that he lived a purposeful life.
“I commiserate with the government and people of Kano over the painful loss as he was committed to the growth and progress of the state and Nigeria,” he said.
The senator prayed to Allah to grant the late politician Al-Jannah Firdaus.
