Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the recent killing of a mother and her six children in Kano State.

In a Sunday post on X, he said the incident has left him heartbroken.

The Kano State Police Command earlier confirmed the arrest of three persons linked to the killings, which occurred at Dorayi Chiranchi quarters in Kano Municipal Local Government Area on Saturday.

Atiku decried the continued killings of Nigerians by non-state actors, noting that this indicated that so-called marching orders to security agencies were either not being actioned or is merely political talk.

He said, “I am heartbroken by the gruesome killing of a mother and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi, Kano.

“This senseless violence against innocent Nigerians is unacceptable. My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family and community.

“It is either the so-called marching orders to the security agencies are not being actioned or it is merely political talk.

“Security agencies are charged to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and for decisive actions to protect every Nigerian from such brutality.

“We must end the culture of violence and ensure safety for all.”

Meanwhile, the Kano police command revealed the identities of the arrested suspected killers of the 35-year-old woman and her children.

The suspects were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23; Isyaku Yakubu (also known as Chebe), 40; and Yakubu Abdulaziz (also known as Wawo), 21.

Command spokesman, Abdullahi Kiyawa said the suspects were nabbed during a sting operation that ran from 10pm on Saturday to 4am on Sunday.

According to the police spokesman, investigations unravelled that Auwalu, a nephew of the deceased woman, was the ring leader and confessed to the crime.
