Glitter and glamour are the hallmarks of fashion and style. No fashion brand is complete without panache and elan. However, while some fashion designers are loud and classy, others deliver their brands with emphatic elegance. Menucha Fashion, run by Oyinkansola Owoyemi, falls into the latter category.

For Owoyemi, fashion is life. Narrating how it all began to this reporter, she said: “Right from childhood, I have loved fashion. In fact, I’ve loved fashion for as long as I can remember. But aside fashion, I also have a strong interest in agriculture. However, I remember while growing up I had a sketchpad where I sketched several designs. For so long, it was just a fun hobby I liked to do in my spare time, but four years ago, I started embracing the idea of building something out of the hobby. I chose to design clothes because I believe I have this gift and I’d love to share it with the world.”

Owoyemi’s signature couture, Menucha, is a brand centered on rest and tranquility. “This theme is engrained in our prints and designs. They are versatile pieces that can be worn in multiple ways. We are a slow production brand, so all our pieces are made in limited quantities. I design both men and women’s wears but most of our designs are unisex,” she stated.

On her tailoring expertise, Owoyemi has this to say, “I can cut and sew. I trained seven years ago but I cannot single-handedly produce the pieces for the brand, so I work with some tailors in Akure, Ondo State to produce the clothes.”

The Menucha Fashion boss added: “Fashion is a powerful tool for expression. I think when one’s style is fully embraced, fashion can be truly liberating as it allows a person to show up as their most authentic self.”

The fashion entrepreneur also tells of her memorable experience as a designer. “I think it’s every time we perfectly execute a sketch at the first attempt. It’s special each time and I find it quite memorable.”

One of Owoyemi’s role models in the fashion industry is Andrea Iyamah. She says of the style icon: “I’m so inspired by her brand and all she has accomplished over the years.”
