The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) University of Lagos (UNILAG) branch will today award scholarships to some indigent students of the institution.
A statement signed by the branch chairman, Kayode Adebayo said the award is in line with the directive by the national body.
Adebayo said the award is part of ASUU’s Heros Day celebration, which is meant to celebrate and recognize its members, who made contribution to the advancement of the union or paid the supreme price in the service of the union.
According to him, the heros day is also used to award scholarships to some indigent but brilliant students in public universities in the country.
He revealed that the heros day was celebrated at the Kaduna State University with a public lecture titled: Economic Crisis, Government Responses and the Tertiary Education in Nigeria” delivered by Prof. Sheriffdeen Tela.
Adebayo explained that the occasion was used to award scholarship to two brilliant indigent students in Kaduna State University.
ASUU-UNILAG chairman said two scholarships will be awarded on behalf of the national Secretariat and another ten by the branch.
