A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon Obidike Chukwuebuka has called on the Federal Government to immediately put up necessary measures to end the prolonged industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
Hon Obidike in a statement , Thursday said, “The future of Nigeria like every other nation, lies on the shoulders of our youths whom we sent out of school since February 14, 2022 and I call on Federal Government to act swiftly to save the future of the students.
“The federal government should urgently take all necessary measures to open a realistic negotiation with ASUU to stop the strike and implement the signed agreements in the interest of our students, their parents, the education sector and the country.
“The continued staying at home of students has caused serious psychological traumas on students and parents, the strike has also caused the rise in crime rate and prostitution in the country saying the government must do everything possible to end the strike within seven days. The incessant strikes by the lecturers could lead to poor quality of graduates.”
Hon Obidike also appeals to the ASUU leadership not to allow ego and selfishness to taint their demands as the future of our country, the students and the future of education in the country should be paramount.
