The Academic Staff Union of Universities at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, now Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi (ASUU-FUAM), has joined the nationwide strike embarked upon by the union.

It was recalled that ASUU President, Prof Chris Piwuna, announced the decision in Abuja directing all the branches of ASUU across the country to withdraw their services with effect from Monday, October 13, 2025.

He warned that the warning strike shall be total and comprehensive as agreed at the last National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the union.

Rising from its Congress on Monday, the Chairman of ASUU-FUAM, Dr Terseer Abari, told our reporter on the phone that his chapter has complied with the directive.

Abari said: “We have complied with the national directive. So we are on strike as we speak.”

Responding to concerns expressed by some students who were still writing their exams at the institution, Abari said the majority of their students were done with their exams, saying those left would go and come back after the strike.

He said: “A good number of our students are done with their exams except those in the Veterinary College who are left with one or two papers.

“But as we proceed on the strike, every other thing will cease. When we come back they will round it up. 95 percent of our students are done with their exams. If you go to our campus you will not see anybody except those doing their projects. So these ones will go home and come back after the strike.”

Meanwhile, at the Fr Adasu University (FAU) Makurdi, formerly Benue State University (BSU), students were seen on campus but no lecture was going on at the time of the visit on Monday.

When contacted, the ASUU Chairman, Sule Ako, said he was in a meeting and promised to get back.
