University teachers across three Lagos State-owned universities have issued a 14-day ultimatum to their respective managements over the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU Agreement.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branches at Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) reached the decision following branch congresses held on August 26th and 27th.
The congresses, as gathered, complied with a directive from ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC), instructing state branches lacking implementation to issue ultimatums, warning that failure by state governments to meet demands would lead to industrial action.
The branch executives of the unions have reportedly communicated the resolutions to their vice chancellors.
Union leaders clarified that the 14-day ultimatum, set to expire on September 9 and 10, 2026, targets the state government rather than local management.

In a formal letter to university leadership, the union cited unresolved issues, including the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), the revised salary template, and outstanding financial arrears.
“Despite several engagements concerning the implementation of the revised salary template, management has yet to effect it or settle consequential financial obligations.
“This prolonged delay has placed our members under severe financial pressure, generating widespread dissatisfaction and weakening morale,” the letter read in part.
ASUU Lagos Zone Coordinator, Prof Adesola Nassir, monitored the congress deliberations.
Resolutions are expected to be submitted to NEC in Abuja for final approval should state authorities fail to meet demands before the deadline.
