The Asthma Relief Campaign Project, in collaboration with Global Allergy and Airway Patient Platform (GAAPP), Austria is partnering other organizations to promote clean air and healthy lungs, to combat asthma in Nigeria.
According to a statement by Ugochukwu Nwangoro, founder of the Campaign Project, the National Clean Air Project which will be done in the six regions in Nigeria will kick start in June and end in August.
The statement said the aim was to raise awareness about the impact of air pollution on asthmatic patients and provide support to individuals living with the condition.
“Asthma affects over 15 million Nigerians, with air pollution being a significant trigger. The project’s focus on clean air and sustainable living is crucial in reducing the burden of asthma in the country”, the statement added
It said the key initiatives will be to carry out awareness campaigns in government tertiary institutions to educate citizens about asthma and air pollution.
During the awareness campaign, there would be distribution of asthma inhalers and medication to affected individuals and establishment of asthma support groups and counseling services.
“Asthma is a manageable condition, but air pollution makes it a deadly disease. We are committed to creating a cleaner, healthier Nigeria for all”, said Nwangoro.
