Senate Committee Chairman on Land Transportation, Gbenga Ashafa, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari not to abandon any of the various ongoing railway projects across the country during his second term.
Speaking during the inspection of the Lagos-Ibadan railway project, at the weekend, Ashafa equally pleaded with the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration to do everything within its power to ensure the rail projects did not fail.
He said: “Last week, when we had budget section for 2019, the issue of funding came up and the question we asked was what have you done with the funds that have been released? The minister gave us a pictorial information of what has been done and invited us for another oversight, and that is why we are here.
“The last time we came here was in February. We came through Agbado to Abeokuta, which was barely 60 kilometres or there about, but, this time, they are able to take the tracks to almost 90 kilometres, a difference of about 30 kilometres within eight weeks, and that is the effect of oversight inspection. Along the line, you will see that added value is exhibited in terms of infrastructure springing up left and right the corridors.”
