The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), has rejected in its entirety the attempt in some quarters to restore the suspended Director General, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Mr. Mournir Gwarzo, to office.
In a press statement signed by the Secretary General of ASCSN, Mr. Isaac Ojemhenke, yesterday, the union pointed out that the issue of Gwarzo’s suspension from office was very clear as it borders on serious breach of the rules governing parastatals of government.
“The attempt being made to change the narrative by bringing in the issue of forensic audit of Oando is neither here nor there.  The sponsored report about Oando forensic audit as being responsible for Gwarzo’s suspension is a deliberate and diversionary tactic to divert the public attention from the weighty allegation bordering on corruption. The right thing has been done by the government and we support the action taken,”he said.
ASCSN said it is in full support of the suspension of Gwarzo, adding that it is important to enable the administrative panel to inquire, investigate and determine the culpability of suspended DG and his cohorts.
The union explained that the capital market is very sensitive and thrives on integrity. “As the DG of the apex regulator of the Nigerian capital market, who currently has several corruption allegations levelled against him, it is extremely important that he clears his name from these allegations for the purpose of integrity in the capital market.”
It added: “Corruption allegations against Gwarzo should be treated on its merits without any intermingling with alleged interference by the supervising ministry.
“For the past two years, Gwarzo has fought the labour union in SEC and did everything possible to obliterate it to enable him have free reign, without any checks.  The jubilation in the commission that greeted the announcement of his suspension was more than the one in Zimbabwe when Mugabe was removed,” the statement stated.

The association expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for his timely intervention in SEC by suspending the embattled DG but also appealed to him, as matter of urgency, to constitute the board of SEC.
