The world is set to mark the 2026 World Tourism Day (WTD) tomorrow, September 27. The focus will be on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transforming tourism. The theme for the year is “Digital agenda and artificial intelligence to redesign tourism.”
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UN Tourism) explained that the reason for the focus on artificial intelligence is that tourism has always evolved through innovation, and AI is set to become its next major transformation.
UN Tourism said it will use the WTD 2026 to explore how AI can help create smarter, more inclusive and sustainable tourism by enhancing decision-making, strengthening skills, and improving the way destinations are experienced and managed.
The 2026 WTD will be marked in El Salvador where there will be discussions on the role of AI-powered education and skills, followed by perspectives from El Salvador and Commission for Africa (CAF) on how innovation, public policy and partnerships can translate digital transformation into meaningful human impact.
