A new private university, Azman University Kano, has appointed billionaire businessman Arthur Eze, as its pioneer Chancellor.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Board and the Governing Council of the University, on Sunday, the Chairman of the University, AbdulManaf Yunusa Sarina, said that his appointment was in recognition of his enduring support for education in Nigeria.

Sarina who is also the Chairman of Azman Group of Companies, assured that the new University would make quality its watchword, stressing that it would recruit quality academics to raise world-class students.

The Board and Governing Council, according to him, would assist in the take-off activities of the University, including steering the affairs of the academic institution.

He recalled that the journey of the establishment of the university began five years ago and was fired by his desire to contribute to University education in Nigeria. He appreciated the support and encouragement of the National Universities Commission (NUC) throughout the journey.

The Chancellor, Arthur Eze, who donated the sum of N200 million to the university, disclosed that he had enjoyed an exciting relationship with the people of the North and Kano in particular right from the administration of the late Abubakar Rimi.

Chairman of the occasion and former Vice Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano, Muhammad Yahuza Bello said the inauguration marked a milestone in the life of the Institution, which obtained its licence five years ago.

Members of the Board are Ado Mohammed Maaji as Chairman, Sarki Ibrahim Makama, Hafiz Abubakar, M.S. Haruna, Bashir Aliyu, Amb. Mannir Liman, Oguga Ikpeze, Zainab Abdulmunafi and Mustapha A. Yunusa who will serve as Secretary.
