Former Ajax midfielder Marciano Vink has praised Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare for the technical quality he has shown since joining Ajax, highlighting the striker’s ability to produce skillful moments despite his imposing physical frame.
Arokodare joined Ajax from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan in the summer, with the Dutch club holding an option to make the transfer permanent.
The 25-year-old has quickly established himself as an important attacking option, scoring five goals across competitions for the Amsterdam club this season.
Speaking on ESPN’s Dit was het Weekend, Vink focused on one particular opportunity involving Arokodare and explained why the forward’s technical ability has impressed him.
“That chance for Tolu, which he controls on his chest and then shoots wide with his left… He took it a bit too much on the outside of his foot this time, causing it to go wide, he said, as quoted by Voetbalprimeur.
The former Ajax midfielder then praised the quality of the Nigerian’s control and movement in a tight area, stressing that his size makes the execution even more impressive.
“But that is really impressive, in tight space for such a big and strong guy. It’s a good thing the ball didn’t go straight into the top corner, because then it would be the goal of the year. That whole move reveals so much footballing class.”
Vink admitted that Arokodare’s immediate influence had exceeded his expectations, while identifying heading as one area where the striker could still improve.
“I didn’t expect him to make such an immediate impact. Only the heading could be a bit better, but that move reveals a lot. He can really play football well for such a strong, big player,” he concluded.
