Former aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Ifeanyi Elvis Ogbonna also known as Ignis, has emerged as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 House of Representatives election, sparking widespread jubilation among his supporters across the constituency.

Ignis, a politician and entrepreneur, secured the party’s ticket at the NDC primary election held in Abia State on Tuesday, marking a significant development in the political landscape of Arochukwu and Ohafia ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His emergence comes a month after he parted ways with the APC following his disqualification during the party’s screening exercise conducted in May under circumstances that generated controversy and debate among party stakeholders and supporters.

Following his exit from the ruling party, Ifeanyi joined the NDC, where he quickly gained momentum and support from party members and grassroots political groups, culminating in his emergence as the party’s standard-bearer for the federal constituency contest.

Confirming the outcome of the primary election, Chairman of the NDC Primary Election Committee, Chief Asukewe Ikoawaji, announced Ignis as the duly elected candidate of the party for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency seat.

The declaration was greeted with celebrations by party faithful, supporters and political associates who described the outcome as a reflection of the confidence reposed in Ignis’ leadership credentials and political vision.

Speaking shortly after the exercise, Ignis expressed gratitude to God, the leadership of the NDC and party delegates for entrusting him with the mandate to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 elections.
He said:

“With gratitude to God and the leadership of NDC, I am honored to announce that I have secured the NDC ticket to contest for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 General Election.

“This victory belongs to the people. Together, we will build a brighter future for Arochukwu and Ohafia.”

The NDC candidate further pledged to pursue people-oriented representation and work towards addressing the developmental needs of the constituency if elected.

Meanwhile, several support groups and political stakeholders have continued to congratulate Ignis on his emergence, describing him as one of the most formidable contenders in the race for the federal legislative seat.

Supporters further argued that his experience in both public administration and private enterprise positions him to provide effective representation and attract developmental opportunities to the constituency.
