The Nigerian Army says it is conducting extensive training for operatives of the forest guards at the Nigerian Army Training Centre, Miango, in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The training, which includes range classification exercises, is being undertaken by the Army Headquarters Department of Training and 3 Armoured Division as part of activities outlined for the training of operatives of the newly established outfit.
A statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Victor Olukoya, said the exercise would involve live firing of weapons at the 3 Division Small Arms Range, Miango.
He said the exercise is aimed at enhancing the operatives’ proficiency in firearms and weapon handling, as well as their marksmanship skills.
The statement said, “Consequently, the Range Classification exercise for the operatives is scheduled to hold at the Nigerian Army Shooting Range Miango, Jos from Friday, 7 – Saturday, 22 August 2026.

“The shooting exercise would involve large movement of troops and equipment as well as series of gunshots within and around the Shooting Range.
“Therefore, occupants within Miango general area are kindly advised to stay away from the range area for the period of the shooting exercise. In view of the above,”
The Army advised the general public, particularly residents of Miango and its environs, to keep away from the exercise area.
The statement further advised the public that while the sound of gunfire might be heard during the aforementioned period, they should not panic, as it is a planned and controlled military activity.
