The Nigerian Army has reinforced its commitment to quality education and personnel welfare with the commissioning of several educational and infrastructural projects at Command Day Secondary School, Oshodi, Lagos.
The projects were inaugurated on Tuesday by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, who called on military commanders to make meaningful contributions that leave lasting impacts wherever they serve.
Speaking during the ceremony, the GOC said effective leadership should be measured not only by operational achievements but also by initiatives that improve the welfare and development of personnel and their families.
Among the facilities commissioned were a 300-capacity Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre, a modern Mathematics Laboratory, a renovated conference room, newly constructed furniture for students and staff, a refurbished coaster bus, and the repainting of the entire school.
The Army also equipped the institution with 95 laptop computers, 55 ceiling and wall fans, two refrigerators, and other learning facilities aimed at improving the academic environment.
Major General Babalola said the projects are in line with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, which prioritises troop welfare, institutional development and operational excellence.
He noted that improving educational facilities for the children of military personnel is a strategic investment that enhances the overall welfare of troops and reassures those serving on various operational fronts that their families are being adequately catered for.
The GOC praised the Commandant of Command Day Secondary School, Lieutenant Colonel D.S. Yakubu, for initiating and successfully executing projects that will significantly improve teaching and learning within the institution.
He urged school administrators to ensure the facilities are properly maintained to maximise their long-term benefits for future generations of students.
In his address, Lieutenant Colonel Yakubu thanked the leadership of the Nigerian Army and the GOC for their unwavering support toward the development of Command schools.
He described the newly commissioned facilities as a major boost to the school’s capacity to deliver quality education, particularly in computer-based learning and science education.
The event attracted senior military officers, commandants of Command schools, members of staff and invited guests, who later toured the completed projects.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to the GOC and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
