The Nigerian Army has taken another major step toward strengthening its operational capabilities with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art War-Gaming Centre at the Department of Land Warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji. The facility was inaugurated on Saturday, 6 December 2025, by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.
Speaking at the event, the Commandant of AFCSC, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Idris Alhaji, said the College remains committed to producing officers intellectually equipped for command, instructional and staff roles within complex security environments. He noted that the War-Gaming Centre, which was conceived and championed by the Chief of Army Staff, will significantly enhance capacity to develop modern operational concepts and improve strategic decision-making skills required on today’s rapidly evolving battlefield.
Air Vice Marshal Alhaji described the facility as a major boost to the institution’s learning infrastructure and assured that the College will continue to support the Department of Land Warfare in delivering world-class professional military education.

Addressing officers and students, the Chief of Army Staff reaffirmed the strategic importance of AFCSC as a centre of excellence for grooming officers capable of addressing Nigeria’s shifting security landscape. He explained that the new centre would serve as a critical platform for planning, rehearsing and executing operations with precision, noting that investment in modern training technologies has become vital for staying ahead of adversaries.
Lieutenant General Shaibu encouraged officers to fully utilise the facility as the Nigerian Army continues to operate in fluid and unpredictable environments requiring advanced analytical and operational skills. He also restated his commitment to modernising military training institutions across the country to align with global standards.
The Army Chief acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the Commander-in-Chief’s continued backing as central to the Nigerian Army’s transformation agenda. He commended the Commandant and staff of AFCSC for their dedication to strengthening the nation’s defence capacity through improved training and professional development.
