The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to remain resolute and committed to restoring peace across the North-West region.
The Army Chief gave the charge on during his maiden operational visit to the Operation’s Area of Responsibility in Gusau, Zamfara State.
Addressing the troops, Lieutenant General Shaibu commended their resilience and sacrifices in tackling the complex security challenges confronting the region. He reassured them that the Nigerian Army leadership is prioritising both their operational needs and welfare.
The COAS disclosed that he had earlier received a detailed briefing from the Theatre Commander on the security situation and frontline challenges. He added that concerns raised by personnel from the land and air components—alongside contributions from representatives of the Chiefs of Naval and Air Staff—were already receiving urgent attention.

Shaibu reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to enhancing troop welfare, stating that motivation, equipment, and support systems remain central to strengthening operational capability.
He urged the personnel to uphold the core values of the Nigerian Armed Forces and to continue conducting themselves with professionalism, noting that their efforts have enabled residents of affected communities to resume their normal daily activities.
“These challenges are transient. Remain resolute, remain determined, and continue to do your job with professionalism. The Nigerian people appreciate your service,” he told the troops.
The COAS also applauded the sustained synergy among the military services operating in the theatre, assuring soldiers that the leadership remains fully committed to improving their working conditions and operational effectiveness.
